Rose Ida “Rosida” Tappehorn, 98 years, Kelly, Kansas, died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, Seneca, KS.

Rose Ida was born August 28, 1918, on a farm west of Kelly, KS, the daughter of Victor and Johanna Schroeder Tappehorn.  She graduated from St Bede’s Grade School, May 1932.  
She lived in Kelly until moving in 2012 to Country Place Senior Living, Seneca. She moved in 2015 to Crestview Senior and Residential Living, Seneca.

She grew up working at the family business, the Farmer’s Union General Store, Kelly.  On May 1, 1940, she was employed by the Farmer’s State Bank, Corning, until her retirement in May 1985.  After retirement, she continued as Executive Vice President and served on the Board of Directors.  In April 2005, she was recognized for 65 years of service.
Rose Ida and her brother, Frank, made their home in Kelly, helping with their parents.  She continued living in Kelly after her brother’s death.

She was a member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church, Kelly, and the Ladies Altar Society, served on the parish council, was a lay minister and religious education teacher.  She was a life member of the church.

She was a member of the Memorial Post #7458 of the VFW Auxiliary at Corning.

Rose Ida enjoyed many years of employment, flowers, garden, cooking, quilting, bowling, fishing, Royals baseball games and playing cards. She especially enjoyed playing “ten point pitch” with her friends.  She was the main pitcher for the Centralia Ladies softball team during WWII.  

Rose Ida’s family was an important part of her life.  She enjoyed being a part of her sister’s and brother’s families, her nieces and nephews and their families.  After retirement she enjoyed helping with her great nieces and nephews, sitting with them, attending school and sport functions, graduations and marriages and being a great-great aunt.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Johanna Tappehorn, sister, Marie Heinen, brothers, Frank and Joseph “Bud” Tappehorn and nephews, Leon Heinen and Joseph “Joe” Tappehorn.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Mary Ann Heinen, Topeka, Judy (Ben) Coates, Topeka, Bob (Jeanette) Heinen, Silver Lake, Jim (Jean) Heinen, Axtell, Bill (Denise), Manhattan, Mike (Jackie) Heinen, Centralia, Steve Tappehorn, Sabetha, Julie (Bruce) Munsterman, Auburn and Tanya Tappehorn (spouse of Joe), Bartlesville, OK; great nieces and nephews,  Benjamin (Wendy) Coates, Topeka, Heather Coates, Lawrence, Doug and Greg (Andi) Heinen, Topeka, Jennifer (Chris) Bowman, Manhattan, Brett (Nikki) Heinen, Highland Village, TX, Jessica Heinen, Atlanta, GA, Sarah Heinen, Chicago, IL, Tyler (Kelsey) Heinen, Imperial, NE, Zachary and Matthew Heinen, Manhattan, Crissy (Nathan) Olander, Little River, Michelle Heinen, Seneca, Josh (Sarah) Heinen, Kansas City, MO, Andrea Heinen, Bartlesville, OK, Catilyn (Sam) Meserve, Bartlesville, OK, Brett and Hannah Munsterman, Auburn; great-great nieces and nephews, Thomas Coates, Sophie and Will Heinen, Mila and Miles Bowman, Farrah, Braxton and Barrett Heinen, Treyton, Aubrey, Havanna, Duncan, Beckett and Juddson Olander and Noah, Ethan and Jacob Heinen.

The rosary will be prayed 2 & 7 P.M. Friday, February 24, 2017, at the Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Arul Carasala on Saturday February 25, 2017at 10:30 A.M., at St Bede’s Catholic Church, Kelly.  The burial will follow in the church cemetery,
