Juanita Morey
Chapel Oaks Funeral Home Hiawatha
Hiawatha, KS

A. Juanita Morey, 82, of Hiawatha, died Saturday morning, February 25, 2017, at the North Pines in Hiawatha where she had been a resident since April 2015.

Juanita was born in Brown County, Kansas, January 17, 1935, one of four children born to the late Donald and Margaret Meugniot Joslin, and had lived in Hiawatha nearly all of her life.  She grew up here where she attended Hiawatha schools.
Juanita worked for several years as a nurse aide at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. She later was a cook for Hiawatha High School (USD #415), retiring as the head cook in April 1993, after 25 years of service.

She was a longtime, dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Hiawatha.  She loved her Lord; her family, and to say that she loved her grandchildren, was an understatement!

She married Donald C. Morey, December 9, 1951, at Powhattan.  They enjoyed their life together, raising their family, camping, and round dancing.  He died December 27, 1992.  She was also preceded in death by her step father Bert Frakes; brother Donald Joslin; and an infant sister.

Survivors include her children:  Daniel Morey (Sandy) of Robinson, Connie Hoffman (Dave) of Hiawatha, Guy Morey (Jody), also of Hiawatha; a sister Nyla Dexter (Wayne) of Horton; 18 Grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Juanita’s life is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Hiawatha, with Jerry Boaz officiating.  Interment will follow at Powhattan Cemetery.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Tuesday, where the  family will meet with friends 6-8 Wednesday evening.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Juanita Morey Memorial Fund, which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.
