Ross M. Nelson, 91, of Holton, KS passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at The Pines in Holton. He was born January 17, 1926 in Circleville, KS the son of Guy and Dorothy (Beightel) Nelson near Circleville.

Ross graduated from Circleville High School in 1943. After graduation, he farmed with his brother Scott. He then worked several years in Washington DC before being drafted in the United States Army. He served his country for two years during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he attended K-State University, graduating in 1957 with an Agricultural degree. Ross was employed by the Extension Service for 30 years, working in the following counties: Shawnee, Franklin, Washington, Logan and finally in Ellis. After retiring in 1987, he returned to Holton and worked part-time as the Emergency Management Co-Coordinator for six years.

Ross was a life member of Holton VFW Post 1367, Holton American Legion Post 44, NARFE member, 50 year member of Circleville Mason Lodge Post 20, life member of National Association of County Ag Agents and K-State Foundation member.

Ross was preceded in death by his first wife Loretta; his brother, Scott; his sister, Roberta; his granddaughter, Miranda; his parents and other family members.

Survivors include his wife Betty; his daughter, Deliece Hofen (Brian), 2 sons, Shawn Nelson (Jane) and Dennis Nelson (Beverly); 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Private family burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery.
