Richard Louis Traxler, 72, of Perry, died Monday, April 3, 2017 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born February 3, 1945 in Lawrence, the son of  Louis F. and Marie Elizabeth Cottrell Traxler. He was a 1963 graduate of Lecompton High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Reserves, serving six years, from 1965 to 1971. 

Richard was a farmer for more than 50 years in the Perry and Lecompton area. He owned property in Dubois, WY, where he enjoyed helping friends with  the building of cabins, barns and fencing, and helping with hunting trips. He was a member of the American Legion Post #142, Perry.  

He was married to Dorothy “Dotty” Schaake on July 26, 1969 in Lawrence, she preceded him in death on November 9, 1989. He was also preceded in death by his longtime companion, Dawn R. Finley on December 7, 2016.

He is survived by one daughter, Nicole Ann (Terry) Collins, Concordia, KS, one sister, Linda (Robbie) Orr, Linwood, KS, one grandson, Trey Collins, Concordia, KS, and extended family, Chad (Misty) Finley and family, Haysville, KS.

Services at 11:00 AM, Saturday at Perry American Legion Post #142, Perry.  Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa.  Cremation to follow services.
