Margaret “Doris” Delk, 95, of Troy, Kansas completed her life’s journey on August 18, 2017.

Doris was born September 2, 1921, to George Henry Johnson and Clara Ethel (Price) Johnson. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Northeast Kansas for six years before marrying Ernest Neal Delk on August 20, 1946. They spent 51 years together and had three children: Marcia (Leonard) Twombly, of Troy, Kansas, Michael Delk, of Blue Springs, Missouri and Philip Delk, who died in 1976. Doris was proud of her seven grandchildren: Leah, Amanda, Nathan, Aaron, Ben, Beth and Angie; and her four great-grandchildren: Noah, Grace, Owen, and Meredith.

Doris loved her huge garden in which for many years she raised a variety of vegetables and fruits, sharing them freely with friends and family. Loved one will always especially remember her famous strawberry jam. She also enjoyed sharing time with friends and family playing countless games of dominoes, spoons, uno, and pinochle. Doris treasured her church and valued the time she spent in its work. She also spent endless hours in community service.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest on December 4, 1997, her parents, a son, Philip Delk and by a brother, Bob Johnson. She is survived by one sister: Clara Belle Culp of Troy and three brothers: George Johnson of Highland, Don Johnson of Atchison, and Paul Johnson of Bendena.

Funeral: Saturday, August 26, 2017 - 10:30 A.M.
At: Community of Christ Church in Fanning, Kansas
Burial: Mount Olive Cemetery in Troy, Kansas
Visitation: family will receive friends1 hour prior to funeral at the church (9:30-10:30) Saturday. Friends may call after 12 noon Friday at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Troy, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Friends of Hospice of Jefferson County.
