Loren Keith Roush, 84, of Holton, died November 5, 2017 at his home.
 
He was born in Wetmore, KS on February 27, 1933, the son of Harold “Shorty” Roush and Hattie Lorena Smith Roush.  Loren graduated from Wetmore High School in 1951.  He then went on to Washburn University where he got his undergraduate degree before going on to receive a Masters in Biology from Emporia State University.   He married Martha Ann Ralston Roush on April 3, 1953 and they had three children.

Loren was a dedicated teacher and taught at several schools throughout the state to include: Burlingame High School, St. John’s Military School (Salina) and retired May 1995 from Central Junior High in Lawrence where he taught math and biology and also was a wrestling coach.  In addition to coaching wrestling he spent numerous years as a wrestling official for junior and senior high school.  He also attended and was a member of the Potawatomi Methodist Church, Mayetta.

Loren was passionate about genealogy, his annual vegetable garden as well as the civil war.  For numerous years he attended and participated in Civil War Reenactments and was even an “extra” in the movie Gettysburg.  

Loren was a very loving man and was very proud and often bragged about his family.  He is survived by his wife Martha of the home, a daughter Lisa Clark (Elza), Lawrence: a daughter Susan Nelson (Michael), Wittmann, Arizona; a daughter in law, Sandra Roush (Williams) and a brother in law, Kenneth Gillespie, Corrales, New Mexico.  Four grandchildren:  Brian Roush, Holton, Michael Roush (Kristi), Holton, Rocky Romeo, Los Angelos, California and Alison Olson, Valley Falls.  Seven great grandsons:  Chris, Kolby, Dalton, Kreighton, Kade Roush, Kevin and Brody Olson. Three siblings:  Maxine Crawford, Marvin Roush (Joyce) and Wanda Lindberg (Herb) and several nieces and nephews.  Loren was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Mary Jo Mayer (Roush) and Patricia Mayer (Roush), a brother, Donald Roush and his son, David Roush.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 11, 2017 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.  Burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.  Memorials can be made to the Potawatomi Methodist Church or Cares, Inc. c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.  His daughter Lisa trained several dogs for Cares, and both her and his son David later benefited from service dogs from Cares, Inc.
