Sheldon Don Hochuli, 90, died November 8, 2017 at the Medicalodge Jackson County in Holton, Kansas.  Sheldon was born February 13, 1927 in Holton Kansas, the son of Edwin and Helen (Boyles) Hochuli. 

He was a lifelong resident of Holton.  He graduated early from Holton High School in 1945 to join the United States Navy during World War II serving on the USS Iowa for the duration of the war.  Upon returning home he attended Kansas State University.  He married Mary Riley at the Presbyterian Church in Holton on February 22, 1948.

Sheldon joined the Denison State Bank in 1966 retiring in 1989.  Before joining the bank he spent 13 ½ years with the post office in Holton and worked 6 previous years in the heating and plumbing business with Walter Bennett.  He also worked for his father at the Hochuli Texaco Super Service Station and was employed for a short stint at Goodyear in Topeka.

As a lifelong resident of Holton he held offices in the Holton Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Shriners, Holton VFW Post 1367and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 44.  In his younger days he was an active volunteer in the Boys Scouts of America.  He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church.  As an avid golfer he was a longtime member of the Holton Country Club.  Sheldon and Mary loved to travel and took many family vacations to Estes Park Colorado.

He leaves his wife of 69 years, Mary Elizabeth (Riley) Hochuli; his daughter Cindy (Mike) Vanek of Peoria Illinois; his son Sheldon (Martha) Hochuli of Topeka Kansas; grandchildren Jeff, Kristen, Elizabeth, Matthew and Grace; great grandchildren Jackson, Paisley, Ivan and Siena and sister Velma Jean Miller of Topeka.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Sheldon will lie in state at the funeral home beginning Monday, November 13, 2017. Private family burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Holton V.F.W. Post 1367 or Holton American Legion Post 44 c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
