Florence Naomi Nevins, 95, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017.
 
She was born March 11, 1922, at Muscotah, the daughter of James Leroy and Myrtle McDonald Tipling. She attended grade school at South Creek and Stoney Point near Muscotah.

Florence lived in the Muscotah community before moving to Valley Falls in 1955. She was a homemaker and also a cook for USD 338 in Valley Falls from 1959 until she retired in 1984. She was head cook for her last 8 years. She was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church.

She and Floyd enjoyed their camping and fishing trips, especially ones to Minnesota.

She married George William Goodpasture, Jr. Jan. 27, 1942 in Atchison. He died May 27, 1953. She married Floyd Alvin Nevins Aug. 1, 1955 at Valley Falls. He died July 2, 2015.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Chuck Nevins; daughter, Caroline Lassiter; son-in-law, Mike Harrington; granddaughter, Lori Lynn Lassiter; and grandson, Scott Harrington. She had 14 brothers and sisters, all of whom have preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Harrington, Valley Falls, and Shirley (Phil) Burns, West Point, NE; son-in-law, Jackie T. Lassiter, Valley Falls; former daughter-in-law, Marsha Weishaar, Nortonville; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Muscotah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday.
