Frances E. “Jean” Boyce, 84, Valley Falls, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at her home.

She was born Jan. 14, 1933, at Atchison, the daughter of Elmer Cleo and Elsie Marie Wheeler Pennington. She had attended Atchison High School and received her diploma later.

Jean was a Drivers License Examiner for the State of Kansas in Topeka for over 25 years. She had worked at the State of Kansas Titles and Registration Department and for Jostens, both in Topeka. Jean was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 V.F.W., both in Valley Falls.

She married James Donald Boyce, Oct. 22, 1950, at Valley Falls. He died April 10, 1981. She was also preceded in death by a son, James Dale Boyce; grandson, Nicholas Boyce; daughter-in-law, Nedra Boyce; and two brothers, Elmer LeRoy and Howard Glenn Pennington.

Survivors include two sons, Frank E. Boyce, Valley Falls, and Raymond E. Boyce, Holton; two daughters, Pamela B. (Bill) Pfannenstiel, Garland, TX, and Donna M. (Robert) Johnston, Valley Falls; four sisters, Susie Berry, Atchison, Ruby Nauman, York, PA, Virginia Pelton, Topeka, and Beatrice McMillan, Cocoa, FL; five grandchildren, Megan, Casey, Aron, Dustin, and Phillip; and seven great-grandchildren, McKayla, Taygen, Braxton, Brooklyn, Alannah, Lennox and Grayson.

Jean dearly loved her family and friends and she enjoyed going fishing with them.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
