Mimi A. Young, 76, Atchison, Kansas died Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri with her family at her side.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. St. Francis Baptist Temple, 1610 Angelique Street, St. Joseph, Missouri, with Pastor W. A. Hedge officiating. Interment will follow promptly at 2:30 P.M. at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Dec. 14th from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the church. Final arrangements have been entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison, Kansas. Mimi was born December 5, 1941, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of George W. and Frances (Hatcher) Harper. She attended elementary school in St. Joseph graduating from Central High School. Following graduation she attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas.

She and Joseph Young were united in marriage on March 20, 1971, in Los Angeles, California.

Mimi was employed with the City of Los Angeles for 30 years as a secretary.

She was a member of St. Francis Baptist Temple in St. Joseph, where she served as a Deaconess and as church clerk. She loved to travel, enjoyed volunteering and reading in her free time.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Young, a son James Allemond (Jolynn) Kemp,II; Pasadena, CA, a step-daughter, Catharia Blackwell, Decator, GA, her mother, Frances Harper, Atchison, KS, a step-grandchild, her special cousin, Clarissa Watson-Blake, Los Angeles, CA, and special friend, Glenis (Kenneth) Davis, Atchison, Kansas.

Mimi was preceded in death by her father, George Harper.
