Leonard Anthony Winkelbauer, 93, of Horton, Kansas passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Mission Village Living Center, in Horton, Kansas.

He was born on October 29, 1924 in Horton, Kansas the son of Robert and Christina (Bickelmeier) Winkelbauer.

Leonard graduated from Horton High School in 1942, and joined the army in 1943, serving in Europe during WWII. Following discharge he married Wilma Schuetz on August 7, 1946 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Mercier, Kansas.

Leonard was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW, and American Legion Post 7.

He is survived by two sons Reverend Phillip Winkelbauer of Leavenworth, Kansas; Leland (Sandi) Winkelbauer of Topeka, Kansas; one daughter Colette Winkelbauer, Lawrence, Kansas; one brother Cyril Winkelbauer of Horton, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Rita Winkelbauer, Horton, Kansas and Patricia Christie, Topeka, Kansas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years, a son, Bruce; three brothers and three sisters.

The mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where family will greet friends following the rosary. Burial will be at St. Leo’s Cemetery.
