Ruth Pittman

Ruth L. Pittman, 92, of Hiawatha, went to be with her Lord and Savior, January 8, 2018, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.

She was born August 24, 1925, at Robinson, one of two daughters born to Thomas and Grace Courton Martin and lifelong resident of Brown County. The family moved to Hiawatha when Ruth was years 5 old to make their home. She grew up here, attended Hiawatha schools, later graduating with the class of 1943. She worked as a telephone operator a few years before she married.

Ruth was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Hiawatha; and the United Methodist Women of the Church.

She married Howard Pittman, April 23, 1949, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hiawatha. They made Hiawatha their home all of their married life where she was a homemaker, and devoted to raising her family. He died October 21, 2000.

Survivors include two sons Thomas Pittman of Spring, Texas, Roger Pittman of Denton, Kansas; a daughter Dorothy Fushia of Leavenworth, KS; a sister Leta Rohlmeier of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania; 6 grandchildren: Eric, Abby, Mandy, and Carla; 9 great-grandchildren; with several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Howard.

Memorial Services are planned for 2 pm Friday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home.

Inurnment will follow at Hiawatha Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 Friday.
