Raymond Flanders

Raymond L. Flanders, 87, of Topeka, KS passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at his home in Topeka. He was born September 12, 1930 in Soldier, KS, the son of Clarence A. and G. Maye (Scheidegger) Flanders.

Ray grew up in the Circleville area, attending Kiwonka School and graduating from Holton High School in 1948. He married the love of his life, Beverly Sharrai on March 24, 1951 in Holton, KS. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before Beverly passed on December 18, 2016.

Ray was in the U.S. Marine Corp serving in the Korean War from 1951 – 1953. He operated Flanders 66 gas station from 1956 to 1962. He worked at various car dealerships in the 60s and 70s including Dale Sharp Pontiac Cadillac as a salesman. He work at Whelans selling vinyl siding, windows and fencing retiring in 1992. After retirement he and Ben Ashley installed vinyl siding from 1992-2004.

He was a kind and generous man that would help anyone who needed it including giving them the shirt off his back.

 Ray is survived by his son, Steve (Diane) of Topeka, KS; his grandchildren Katrina, Austin and Randy; his brothers, Richard (Shirley) of Topeka, KS and Kenny (Virginia) of Haysville, KS and many nieces and nephews. Along with his wife he was preceded in death his parents, an infant brother George in 1929, brothers; John (Jack) 2002 and Paul in 1985.

 Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Olive Hill Cemetery west of Holton. He will lie in state at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
