Veda Knudson

Veda Nadine Knudson, 91 of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Mission Village Living Center in Horton, Kansas.

She was born on March 28, 1926 in Horton, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Frankie Rupe Bechtold. Veda attended grade school and graduated from Horton High School in 1944. She then went on to graduate from Stewarts Beauty Academy in Topeka, Kansas. She moved back to Horton and married Kenneth Knudson on October 11, 1947 at the Horton United Methodist Church.

Veda worked as a hairdresser and was recognized by the State Board for being a hairdresser for over 69 years. Veda and Kenneth owned and operated Knudson Jewelry and Hairport for years. Veda also was a farmwife and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Chamber of Commerce, Horton Centennial Booster Club and was a former 4-H leader. Veda was a avid Horton promoter organizing 4-H parades and other community events.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Knudson; a son, Knute (Debbie) Knudson of Hiawatha, Kansas; daughter, Jana (Tim) Ross of Horton, Kansas; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Velma Barlow and Madeline Scott.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church North of Everest, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Veda Knudson Memorial Fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
