Catherine A. “Cathy” Blanton

Catherine A. “Cathy” Blanton, 66, formerly of White Cloud, surrounded by family, passed away Monday, August 6, 2018, at her Hiawatha home.

Cathy was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, April 12, 1952, one of four children born to Alvin Sr. and Gloria Babcock Green and was a lifelong resident of the St. Joseph/Northeast Kansas areas. Cathy grew up in St. Joseph and she attended schools where she later graduated from Central High School. She attended Missouri Western College where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She was one of the coaches for the St. Joe Swim Club for a few years. Cathy served as Vice-President for First State Bank of White Cloud, then when it sold for Silver Lake Bank. Once the Bank closed at White Cloud, she worked the FDIC. Cathy has been the secretary for John Gernon Law Office and also, Halbert-Dunn &Halbert, in Hiawatha for over 30 years. She was also a partner in the Brown County Title Co.

Cathy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She really enjoyed times when all of her family were together at the lake.

She married Geral Blanton November 30, 1979. They lived in White Cloud for 42 years before 3 years ago moving to Hiawatha. Cathy was the longtime bookkeeper for their truck line Blanton Trucking. He survives.

Also surviving are her parents Alvin and Gloria Green of St. Joseph; her children: Tiffany (Troy) Hill of Troy, KS, Brad (Jennifer) Haynes of White Cloud, Jerod (Audrey) Blanton of Gardner, KS; her grandchildren: Marissa Ogden, Lauren Hill, Brayden Hill, Reagen Hill, Annaka Haynes, Ella Haynes, Ava Blanton, and Ryder Blanton. She is also survived by her siblings: Alvin Green, Jr., of Columbia, MO, Gary Green of Gower, MO, and Sharon Defferding of Annandale, VA., with several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Cathy’s life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2018, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. Charlie Neill will officiate. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud.

The family will meet with friends from 6 until 8 Thursday evening at the Hiawatha funeral home.
