Roy “Dean” Mercer, 59 years old, of Atchison, Kansas passed away November 27, 2018 at his home with his family at his side.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church with Rev. Matt Broxterman officiating.  Interment of cremated remains will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday, Dec. 7th, from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home and the family requests friends to please wear red or Chiefs attire in honor of Red Friday and Dean’s love for the Kansas City Chiefs.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Cancer Research at KU Medical Center and may be left with the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom care has been entrusted. Dean was born on December 12, 1958 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Roy A. and Lila J. (Sinclair) Mercer. He attended Fairground and Franklin Elementary Schools and graduated from Atchison High School.

He and the former Sheri R. Lindsey were united in marriage on June 21, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

He was employed at Geiger Ready Mix in Leavenworth, Kansas for thirty-four years as a truck driver. 

Dean was a member of the First Christian Church in Atchison. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, riding his Harley, and Cruisin’ the Caribbean.  He was an avid sports fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas Jayhawks.

Survivors include his wife Sheri Mercer, a daughter Lindsey (Calvin) Heinrich, King City, MO, a son, Alex Mercer, Overland Park, KS, a brother, Bill (Dorothy) Mercer, Polo, MO, two sisters, Debbie (Ron) Buntin, St. Joseph, MO, Rhonda (Bill) Shell, Atchison, KS, and three grandchildren, Carter, Cash and Callie Heinrich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lila Mercer.
