Norman Goodman, 82, of Hiawatha, passed Monday, March 4, 2019, at Maple Heights Nursing Home.

He was born April 1, 1936 in Sabetha, to Lucy “May” Tyner and James Goodman. He grew up on a farm near Wetmore, and attended country school prior to graduating from Wetmore High School in 1954.

Norman married Lynda Gregory of St. Joseph, on May 16, 1970. They lived in the Fairview and Hiawatha area for 48 years.

He and Lynda were devoted members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hiawatha. He was also a member of the Lions Club; BPOE #1741 Hiawatha Elks Lodge; and Knights of Columbus Council #8505.

He farmed in Nemaha County, worked as a welder in Wathena, and owned and operated a lawn service and a trash service in Hiawatha. Norman also worked at the Walmart in Hiawatha.

Norman loved working outside, socializing with the many friends he had in the community, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Banwart; and brother, Merlin Goodman.

Survivors include: wife, Lynda; son, Dwayne (Carol); son, Kevin; daughter, Lynette Grier (Mike); son Dennis (Rachelle); 8 grandchildren, Caden, Zachary, Kesha, Colton, Aunna, Chloe, Katie, and Neville; 2 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Verna Goodman; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services are planned for Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m. at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Frazier, MO cemetery. On Thursday the rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m., followed by visitation from 5-7 p.m.
