Virginia Dunn Koons, 91, Valley Falls, died Sunday, May 19, 2019, at FW Huston Senior Living Center at Winchester. She was born June 5, 1927, at Nortonville, the daughter of Ernest and Anna Brown Heineken.
    Virginia graduated from No. 12 Grade School north of Valley Falls and from Nortonville High School in 1945. She received her Teachers Training Certificate from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia and taught for three years at Swabville Rural School northwest of Valley Falls.
    She married William A. “Bill” Dunn, May 7, 1947, at Nortonville. They farmed north of Valley Falls. Virginia was a master seamstress. She fashioned school uniforms, wedding dresses, and other clothing for special occasions.
    Bill died from injuries as a result of a farm accident, July 17, 1976. Virginia became employed as office manager at Ray Christian Jewelers in Topeka. She later worked in the office of Countryside Veterinarian Clinic at Valley Falls.
    She married Edward T. Koons, Sept. 2, 1977, at the home he had built in Valley Falls. He died Dec. 21, 2009.
    Virginia was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School and held various offices in the church and the United Methodist Women.   
She was instrumental in opening The Clothes Closet, a charitable ministry of the church, and served as a manager and as a volunteer.
    She was past member of the Topeka District UMW Team and the Board of Global Ministries of the Kansas East Conference. Virginia was a life member of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 VFW Auxiliary, and belonged to the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club, both in Valley Falls.
    Survivors include her son, Phil (Donna) Dunn, Valley Falls, her daughter, Gail (Dale) Jepson, Meriden, four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
    Virginia’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at FW Huston Senior Living Center for the many years of care that they provided.
    The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 VFW Auxiliary will also conduct a Memorial Service at the church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
