Wayne F. “Grizz” Rygaard, 81, of Effingham, KS died on Friday, June 21, 2019 at his home surrounded  by his loving family.Memorial Celebration of Life services will be 7:00 pm on Friday, June 28th, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer- Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. David Burnworth, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hoyt officiating.  The body has been cremated. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, at the funeral home. Interment of the cremated remains will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 29th, 2019 at the Sunset Memory Gardens of Atchison.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Holton Community Hospital & Hospice and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.  Words of comfort and remembrance may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com 

Wayne was born on August 23, 1937 in Atchison KS the son of Gene and Pearl (Cox) Rygaard. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1955.  He served in the National Guard. Wayne had worked as a logger nearPort Angles, WA. before moving back here.  Grizz worked most of his life as a mechanic for the Capital Electric Company, Kansas City.  He enjoyed shooting black powder rifles, tinkering around the house, a simple country living, hunting, fishing, and helping his children with projects.

He was married to Janet Worrel on Nov. 28, 1959 at Sacred Heart Church, Atchison.  Mrs. Rygaard survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son Eric Rygaard, Lawrence, KS, two daughters, Mary Flynn, Topeka, KS, and Bonny (Mark) Cassella, Topeka, KS, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.  His parents, two sons, Kevin and Mark Rygaard, and two sisters Marcia and Edra Ruth Rygaard preceded him in death.
