Roger K. Frakes, 77, Valley Falls, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at his home.

 He was born December 20, 1941, at Valley Falls, the son of Raymond C. and Ruth Smith Frakes. He graduated from Effingham High School in 1960. He served in the US Navy, and attained the rank of Second Class Petty Officer.

Roger retired in 1991 from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 27 years of service. He was a manager at their Network Service Department in Topeka.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church In Valley Falls and American Legion Post 225 at Ozawkie.

Roger married Katherine Shell, Feb. 24, 1968, at Valley Falls, and they shared 51 loving years together. 

Survivors include his wife, Kathy, of the home; two sons, Willard Frakes, Neosho Rapids, and Charles Frakes, Nortonville; a daughter, Lynette (Shawn) Valentine, Osage City; a sister, Patricia Frakes, Valley Falls; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur “Bud” Frakes, and Ronald Frakes.

Roger enjoyed doing many woodworking projects. He loved to travel, fish and spend time with his family. 

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial with military honors by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday.
