Mary Faith Dalinghaus

Mary Faith Dalinghaus, 92, of Seneca, went to her heavenly home, Sunday, April 20, at Life Care in Seneca. She was born January 23, 1928, at Baileyville, Kansas, the daughter of Josephine (Fangman) and Frank Kohake.   She attended school at Axtell and Baileyville and graduated from Baileyville High School. She attended Mount Saint Scholastic and Emporia State Teacher’s College.   After her first year at the Mount, she accepted a teaching position, in Home City, Kansas, and taught there 2 years.

She married Bernard Joseph Dalinghaus on October 27, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville.   The couple celebrated 40 years marriage before his death in 1989.   To this union were born 3 children, Karen (Carol Leo) Heiman, Janet (Melvin) Heiman, and Joseph (Marty) Dalinghaus.

Mary Faith spent their early married years working beside her husband in the fields and doing chores of all kinds. Later, she taught school at St. Patrick’s in Corning, St. Michael’s in Axtell, in Beattie, and finished her long teaching career in Marysville.   She was both a classroom teacher and the principal several years at St. Michael’s.   Midway through this teaching career, she returned to college at Kansas State University to get her bachelor’s degree.   When she finished this career, she continued as a substitute teacher in many districts for quite a number of years.

Mary Faith enjoyed her children and grandchildren and their activities.   One of Mary’s favorites was attending their religious activities.   She was a member of the ACCW and served as treasurer. She also enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo and traveling to many spots both stateside and abroad. Before she and Ben moved to Seneca in 1988, Mary was a lector at Sacred Heart.   She was active in Saint Peter and Paul as a communion distributor both at church and the hospital for many years.   She also was a faithful member of the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her siblings, Rita (Vincent) Wietharn, Helene (Aloysius) Dalinghaus, and Giles Kohake. In addition to her children, Mary is survived by 10 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren, and one sister-in-law Rosella Kohake.

Mary Faith will lie in state on Tuesday for public viewing and to sign the book; the family will not be present that day.

Mass of Christian Burial will be PRIVATE on Wednesday, morning, April 22, 2020 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Baileyville. .

Memorials may be left in Mary’s memory and will be donated to the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
