LaVerne L. (Ehrsam) Rokey, 94, of Sabetha, Kansas passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Home.

LaVerne was born in Bern, Kansas on February 5, 1926, the daughter of Elmer and Esther (Hunzeker) Ehrsam. She attended grade school at Ehrsam’s school, which sat on land donated by her great-grandfather, William Ehrsam. She graduated from Bern High School and attended Emporia State Teacher’s College, qualifying her to teach in a one-room school, which she did in Wetmore in the 1940’s.

She was the receptionist for Dr. Martin Rucker of Sabetha for many years. Later in life, she worked at Fountain Villa and the Sabetha Fashion Center. She was a member of the Sabetha Church of Christ and enjoyed reading, stage plays, and classical music.

She is survived by her son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Kristina of Los Angeles; two grandchildren, Claire and Jill; and sister-in-law, Pat Ehrsam of Seneca.

LaVerne was a caring and giving person and continued to be so in death through the gift of her body to the KU Med Center, in keeping with her life-long interest in the medical profession.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
