Robert Hicks
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton
Everest, KS

Robert D. Hicks, 68, of Everest, Kansas made his journey to heaven on Tuesday, June 16, 2020.  Robert was born on July 1, 1951 in Millington, TN, the son of Harold Robertson Hicks and Novalene (Marvin) Roberts.

Robert married Betty Seyler “My Betty” on June 5, 1970 in Tacoma, WA. Together they had three children, Dale, Christie and Mindy. Before he passed, Robert celebrated his 50th year of marriage with Betty surrounded by his family and friends, all of whom he cared for intensely. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973.

After his discharge, he continued his work for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1981, he was the youngest fleet manager in the United States. He retired as Manager of Fleet Operations in Shawnee Mission, KS after 41 years of service in the Spring of 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Hicks of the home, Everest, Kansas; son, Robert “Dale” Hicks Jr. (Laura) of Thousand Oaks, CA; daughters, Christie (Corey) Moman, Everest, KS; Mindy Hicks, Everest, KS; three brothers, Harold “Devon” (Jackie) Hicks, Fox, AK; Alan (Judy) McDivitt, Florence, SC; Charles “Skip” (Terri) McDivitt, Baton Rouge, LA; and a sister, Sherie (Logan) Ragan, Leavenworth, KS; 5 grandchildren, Taylor Moman, Amber (William) Caldwell, Trevor Walkup, Jackson Moman and Hadley Moman.  He was preceded in death by his parents and step father Marvin Roberts.

Robert enjoyed taking care of his family and friends through hospitality whether through a meal or swimming in his pool. Those who knew him always felt welcome because he was sure to let you know “You can’t wear out my water.” Robert saw value where others did not. He drew satisfaction knowing if there was something you needed, he would most likely have it in every color and size and know just where to find it. He taught us all that everything has its place and how to see value in the little things, whether it be a replacement hose fitting that allows you to finish your yardwork or a short conversation about where the best burger comes from that turns into a memory. Every time we find ourselves in an instance that at first seems inconsequential, we’ll remember Robert. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.. but if you do, name it after me.”

Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 26, 2020 at the Horton City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Robert Hicks memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary.
