Helen A. McGinty

Helen A. McGinty, 94, of Seneca passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.

Helen was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on May 9, 1926 to John and Frances Josephine Bodde Heintzelman.  She grew up in the Leavenworth community and attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Leavenworth and graduated in 1944 from Immaculate High School in Leavenworth.  She joined the United States Cadet Nurse Core and received her education at St. May’s College and St. John’s Hospital in Leavenworth to become a Registered Nurse in 1947. 

She married James E. McGinty on October 14, 1950 at Sacred Heart Church in Leavenworth. 

Helen worked at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital from 1952 to 1987.  She worked as a Floor Nurse, Surgical Nurse, and the Director of Nursing before becoming the Administrator in 1976, a position she held for eleven years prior to her retirement on July 15, 1987. 

Helen was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, the Altar Society, the church choir and a Eucharistic minister. Helen enjoyed social coffee gatherings at local establishments, playing bridge, bowling and a good Royals game. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James McGinty; brothers, James D. Heintzelman and Charles Heintzelman; and a daughter-in-law, Trisha McGinty.

She is survived by three sons, Dan McGinty of St. George, Tom (Waneta) McGinty of Spring, Texas and Steve McGinty of Casper, Wyoming; a daughter, Mary (Gary) Sparling of Seneca; a sister, Dolores Kennedy of Leavenworth; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

A rosary will be held at 10AM on Friday, July 10th at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30AM.  Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. 

Memorials may be left in Helen’s memory to Nemaha Valley Community Hospital or Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
