Rita Marie Winkelbauer, 97, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

She was born on February 15, 1923 in Mercier, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Josephine Burkart Schuetz. Rita was a homemaker and was a member of the St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, Horton Hospital Auxiliary and loved playing cards and quilting. On February 13, 1947 she married Aloysius E. Winkelbauer at the St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2016.

She is survived by two daughters, Caroline Hosford of Wichita, Kansas and Beverly (Larry) Robinett of Kansas City, Missouri; two sons, Wayne (Patricia) Winkelbauer of Wichita, Kansas and Thomas (Sharon) Winkelbauer of Leavenworth, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Harland, Leon, Raymond, Clement and Lloyd Schuetz, two sisters, Lillian Williams and Genevieve Armstrong, and a grandsons, Bradley Winkelbauer and Sean Robinett and a son-in-law, Deril Hosford.

A rosary will be recited at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas with a mass to follow at 10:30 A.M. The family is requesting that all attendees to the mass and rosary please wear a mask. Burial will be at the St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery.
