Betty Coy

Betty Jane Coy, 75, of Atchison, KS, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Fr. Gerard Senecal, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services on Saturday, July 28 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in honor of Betty are suggested to Theatre Atchison and may be left in care of the funeral home. Words of comfort for the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.
Betty Jane Wood was born on June 4, 1937 in Atchison, the daughter of Wilson Wesley and Merle Cecelia (Davenport) Wood. Betty attended St. Joseph’s Parish Grade School and graduated from Mt. St. Scholastica Academy in 1955. Betty worked more than twenty years for the former Saunders Manufacturing Company (now Golden Star) as a sewing machine operator. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Church and was always willing to donate food for the many funeral dinners the church provided. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, going to the casino and traveling, especially to the beach. Betty especially loved her grandchildren and wouldn’t miss seeing them perform in Theatre Atchison productions and in their school activities.
Betty and Samuel L. Coy were united in marriage on June 23, 1962 in Miami, OK. Sam preceded Betty in death on October 1, 2008. Betty was also preceded by her parents and one brother, Robert Wood.
Survivors include a daughter, Traci S. (Bob) Nolte of Atchison; a son, John F. (Trish) Coy of Atchison; her three grandchildren, Morgan L. Nolte, Samuel V. Nolte, and Kolten H. Coy; one sister, Sue Mahoney of Lancaster; one brother, Jim (Donna) Wood of Atchison; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
