Dena Weiss

Dena Marie Knobloch Weiss, 99, of Sabetha, Kansas died on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

Dena was born on July 3, 1922 to Jacob and Lydia (Traub) Knobloch in rural Alvord, Iowa. She attended Logan Township #6 School and graduated from the school in 1936. She loved growing up on the family farm with her ten brothers and sisters.

In 1940, Dena moved to Elgin, Illinois and worked at the Elgin National Watch Company. She worked at this company until she married Calvin Carl Weiss on February 21, 1948. They shared 65 happy years together. Early in their marriage, they owned and operated the Morris B-B-Q. They raised their two children and lived in Elgin for 46 years. During that time, Dena enjoyed volunteering at their children’s school, World Relief, and the Apostolic Christian Highland Oaks Home. She also worked as an election judge.

Calvin and Dena were members of the Apostolic Christian Church in Elgin. In August, 1994, they moved to the Apostolic Christian Retirement-West Village in Sabetha, Kansas. The Sabetha Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha became their new church home. Dena also volunteered at the Apostolic Christian Home. During their retirement years, they enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren.

Dena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin; and her nine brothers and sisters.

Dena is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Scott) Samelson of Davenport, Iowa; her son Kurt (lori) Weiss of Melbourne, Florida; her three grandsons, Bret (Sachi) Samelson, Richard (Rebecca) Weiss, and Silas (Bethany) Weiss; and a brother, Dale Knobloch of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha, Kansas. Dena will lie in state at Popkess Mortuary on Sunday, February 13, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The internment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery.
