Albert “Butch” Clark

Albert “Butch” Clark, 72, of Holton, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at his home in rural Holton surrounded by his family. He was born on March 24, 1951, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Vernon and Florence (Siecgrist) Clark.

Butch was a student of the last class to graduate from Denison High School in 1969. After high school, Butch joined the National Guard until 1976. Butch found his true passion in 1972 when he began his 34 years career in law enforcement, serving as a police officer with the Holton Police Department. Throughout his career, Butch worked for McLouth Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, and Iowa “Sac & Fox” Tribal Police Department. In 1978, Butch was appointed Sheriff of Nemaha County and served as Sheriff until 2001. He finally retired from law enforcement in 2006.

Butch loved working on the farm with the two International Tractors he had spent hours rebuilding. He loved catching up with friends and reminiscing about the good times. He enjoyed making early morning runs to town for bug juice for the grandkids and spending time with family. After his retirement, he loved to keep up with his kids by listening to them on the scanner while they worked the job he had loved for so many years.

On February 14, 1971, he married Marcia Kay Brooks in Holton, Kansas. They celebrated over 52 years of marriage.

Butch is survived by his wife Marcia of the home; 4 children, Cassie Thompson of McPherson, Carrie Clark of Valley Falls, Kim (Brad) Hanika of Topeka and Bryan (Beth) Clark of Atchison; 2 uncles, Charles "Chuck" (Virginia) Siecgrist of Olathe and Darrell (Lynn) Siecgrist of Aurora, Colorado. Butch dearly loved his grandkids, Brenden, DeShawn, Tanner, Ian, Carter, Connor, Lily, Ciaran, Grady, Garin, Gentry, and Brogan. He spent hours teaching the grandkids to hunt, fish and drive the tractors. He also enjoyed watching their sporting events.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Denison Cemetery.
