Opal Irene Money, 96, of Auburn, Nebraska was born on September 29, 1926, in Weeping Water, Nebraska to Richard C. and Minnie May (Baker) Doane. She was raised in Mound City, Missouri and attended Mound City High School. On October 3, 1945, Opal was united in marriage to Robert Money in Lincoln, Nebraska. To this union two children, Carol A. and Robert “Kevin “were born. The couple made their home and raised their family in Mound City, Missouri for many years before moving. They moved back to Nebraska in 1957 and eventually retired in Auburn Nebraska.

While living in Auburn, Opal was a devoted member of the Auburn Christian Church. She enjoyed attending the services, helping with the luncheons, and getting to know all the wonderful people of Auburn. Opal loved playing cards, especially the game of Pitch. She enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and when she joined Longs Creek, enjoyed the cards and games that were played there. Opal and Bob loved Auburn and the people there. They said retiring to Auburn was one of the best decisions they ever made.

Opal passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Auburn after a brief illness having reached the earthly age of ninety-six years, ten months, and thirteen days. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert “Bob”, son Robert Kevin, sisters: Dorothy Doane and Betty Firebaugh, and daughter-in-law Loretta Money.

Opal is survived by her daughter Carol Lewis and husband Jerry of Lincoln, NE; grandsons: Paul, Robert, and Kevin, 4 great-grandchildren, her sister Fern Joyce of Sanoma, CA; brother Vern Doane of Edgewood, NM; and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Auburn Christian Church with Pastor Nate Powell officiating.

Visitation will be held from noon-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the Hall Funeral Chapel, 707 15th Street in Auburn. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.

Graveside Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mound City, Missouri.
