Sonya J. Bergman, 76, of Hoyt, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at her home in Hoyt.

She was born on January 2, 1947 in Alma, KS, the daughter of Karl and Ella Hasenbank Fink, in the middle of a snowstorm at her Grandparents home.

On June 20, 1981; Sonya married her loving, unwavering husband Eugene “Gene” Bergman at the First United Methodist Church in Hoyt. He survives, of the home. Her family was most important to her and showered us all with love.

Other survivors include her children, Pam Moseley (Mike) Doug Bergman (Vicky), Sara Rose (Chris) and Suzy McCord (Jason); her sister, Shelia Murray; grandchildren, Michael Moseley (Elizabeth), Larry Michael Hladky, Brandy Bedford (Tyler), Cheyenne Bergman, Gage Bergman, Hillari Lynn (Daniel), Katlyn Rose and Kolby Holthaus; great grandchildren, Jayden, Henry, Grace, Korbin, Kaiden, Amelia, Scarlett and Penelope, and many many other family and friends.

Sonya loved doing crafts and had her own ceramics room, where every summer for many years she would teach local 4-H kids the process of ceramics and how to paint them. She loved to go shopping at craft stores in search of her next new project. Another favorite hobby she had was taking pictures of everything. You would find her many times with a camera in her hand. She captured Senior pictures for not only her own children but several of their friends. She was most proud of her award-winning photo, “Deep Sea Diving at Grandma-”.

Sonya retired from Royal Valley School District where she started as a janitor then moved into the kitchen and became one of the RVHS “Kooks”. She took pride in providing great tasting school lunches and made the best breads and desserts. She was “mom” to all her kids’ friends and many still today.

She was truly loved by all who met her.

Sonya was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Ella (Hasenbank) Fink, her sisters, Sylvia Spangler and Schrita Fink, and her brother, Steven Fink.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Mayetta, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 18th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, in Mayetta. Burial will follow in St. Jospeh Cemetery at Hoyt. Sonya will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Royal Valley USD 337 for school lunches.
