Benny “Ben” Allen Wysong

Benny “Ben” Allen Wysong, 83, of Sabetha, Kansas, died on Monday, August 21, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

Ben was born on November 26, 1939, in Bluffton, Indiana, to Chancy LeRoy and Evelyn (Stavenik) Wysong. He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1958 and went to work as a machinist at Wenger Manufacturing. In 1962, Ben was drafted into the United States Army where he served in a noncombatant role, training as a medic. On June 2, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Aberle, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

In 1974, with the acquisition of a small dairy delivery business, Ben became Sabetha- milkman, operating the milk route for more than 30 years. In addition to his dairy business, Ben also enjoyed farming and raising livestock. In his retirement, he took on small jobs, working at a hardware store and Lakeside Terrace in Sabetha. He also volunteered at the Apostolic Christian Home and delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels program.

Ben was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and served as one of its ministers for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack Wysong; and his brother-in-law, Bob Gerber.

Ben is survived by his wife, Jan; his children, Benj (Staci); Natalie (Ron Grass); Erin (Mark Hutchinson); Becky (Jim) Haney; and David (Cindy); his nine grandchildren; his four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Nancy Gerber, and Sally (Norman) Haerr; and his sister-in-law, Janet Wysong.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Sabetha VFW Post #7285.
