Charlene Emma "Keh-Wah-Kwe" Whitebird, 76, of Everest, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Amberwell Hospital in Hiawatha, Kansas.

She was born on May 17, 1947 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Pauline Wahwahsuck Green. After graduating from high school she went on to graduate from Atchison Vo-Tech. She worked for Duckwall's, Horton student loan office, United Tribes of Kansas and Southeast Nebraska, Kickapoo housing authority and the Golden Eagle Casino. Charlene was involved with the Everest Lions Club and the Kickapoo Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed being around her family and friends. She also loved cooking for her friends and family. She was very well known for her fry bread! You'd almost see her at all the Demo-Derby's rooting on her family members, especially her nephews. Charlene loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs, those were her men as she would say. She had a heart of gold, she had much love for everyone, always had a smile or something humorous to say. Our Rock will be missed deeply.

She is survived by her daughter, Carla Ramirez Cavin of Horton, Kansas; her companion, Dean Mercer of Everest, Kansas; sister, Vivian Wishteyah of Horton, Kansas; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Stephen Ramirez, Ronald Ramirez and a son-in-law, James Cavin, two brothers, Leland Green and Gary Green, two sisters, Roselle Green and Nellie Shopteese and a great grandson.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary with burial to follow at the Kennekuk Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. A pot-luck dinner will follow the burial at the Kickapoo Community Building. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
