Geraldine A. “Gere” Greene, age 92, of Atchison, Kansas, died peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Dooley Center at Mount St. Scholastica.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 11:00 A. M. at St. Benedict Church with Rev. Meinrad Miller, OSB as celebrant. Interment will be Friday, September 29th at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Solomon, Kansas. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, September 28th at 10:00 A.M. with visitation to follow at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom funeral care has been entrusted.

Gere was born May 7, 1931, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of William and Catherine Duncan Wolters. She attended Atchison Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy before attending Mount St. Scholastica College. She was a member of St. Mary- Catholic Church in Salina, Kansas.

Gere served as an elementary school teacher for one year and then as a CMA for Home Health for ten years until her retirement. Her most important role was being a homemaker in the family home for her husband and her nine children.

She and James B. Greene were united in marriage on December 29, 1952, in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Greene preceded her in death on February 26, 2011. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Meikle; a sister, Margaret Mary Johannes; and five brothers, Tom, Bill, Phil, John and Francis Wolters.

Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Greene, Salina, KS; Mary (Mike) Hays, Salina, KS; six sons, Jim (Christine) Greene, Granada Hills, CA; Bill (Kelley) Greene, Sylmar, CA; Tom (Janet) Greene, Wichita, KS; Mark (Becky) Greene, Salina, KS; Pat (Romunda) Greene, Wichita, KS; David (Debbie) Greene, Wichita, KS; three sisters, Catherine (Jim) Lahey, Colorado Springs, CO; Sr. Dorothy Wolters, OSB, Atchison, KS; Theresa (Ray) Miller, Atchison, KS; a brother, Mike (Connie) Wolters, Kansas City, MO; eighteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
