Denise M. Torrey, 63, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, of Axtell, KS, died September 22, 2023, near Axtell.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 30, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Axtell.

Denise was born on November 23, 1959, in Belleville, KS, to Frank and Alma Skocny, the youngest of nine children. On March 1, 2001, she was united in marriage to Andy Torrey in Las Vegas, NV.

She was a remarkable individual who cherished life's simplest joys, whether it was driving her Harley Davidson Motorcycle or traveling without a care for the destination. She embraced every moment with enthusiasm. Her witty humor and enjoyment of life made it a blessing to know and love her.

Life's pure enjoyment came from her family. She cherished all the time she was able to spend with her husband, children and grandchildren, never taking a moment for granted.

Denise found great joy in gardening but made it very clear she did not like dandelions. Despite her aversion to cooking, Denise possessed talent in the kitchen. She always kept an immaculate house and one of her favorite sayings was, "Just because we are poor doesn't mean that we have to be dirty." Denise was able to live by this both in her home and by helping maintain the church recess field with her husband for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Christopher in 2000, and Jeffrey in 2017.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Andy; children, Phillip (Dana) Hebert and Jonathon Hebert; stepsons, Matt (Christina) Torrey and Shane (Taylor) Torrey; grandchildren, Luke, Joey, Jillian, Claire and Jack; brothers, Renus, Marty, Randy and Steve; and sisters, Sherry, Connie, Paula and Jacky.

A memorial fund has been established for the Axtell EMS and Axtell Volunteer Fire Department. Contributions may be sent in care of the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home.
