Georgene “Jeannie” Jane McHenry Meade, 87, entered her eternal rest on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Seneca, Kansas.

Jeannie was born on March 15, 1936, in Junction City, Kansas to Iva May (Knight) McHenry. Jeannie grew up in Lawrence, Kansas. When Jeannie was only 15 years old, her mother passed away, and she moved to Onaga, Kansas. She attended Onaga High School. On October 7, 1954, Jeannie married Alva Meade, Sr., in Alma, Kansas.

Jeannie was a hard-working farm wife and mother. After her husband- death in 1970, Jeannie moved to Centralia, Kansas with her family, and she was employed at the sewing factory in Onaga. Then, in 1980, she worked for the Campbell Soup Factory in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Jeannie retired in 1997, and she moved to Centralia to be closer to her family. In 2005, Jeannie moved to Seneca where she resided until her death.

Jeannie loved country music, watching game shows on television, her beloved cats, and spending time with her family.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her mother, Iva; her husband, Alva; and her stepchildren, Everett, Ronnie, and Lucille.

Jeannie is survived by her five children, Craig, Alva, Jr. (Judy), Robert (Terri), Katherine (Charles) Kling, and Edward; her stepdaughter, Ada Kelly; 15 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Popkess Memorial Chapel in Seneca. Prior to the funeral service, a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. For those individuals unable to attend Jeannie's services, she will lie in state for public viewing on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be made in the Vermillion Cemetery in Vermillion, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Meals on Wheels Nemaha County in Seneca, Helping Hands Humane Society, Inc., and the Crestview Manor Nursing Home sent in care of the Popkess Memorial Chapel, 814 Castle Street, Seneca, Kansas 66538.
