Larry “Hoss” Holsapple, 80 of Seneca, Kansas passed away peacefully Friday, September 29, 2023 in Seneca.

Larry was born on January 23,1943 in Axtell, KS to Laverne and Datha (Gurney) Holsapple. He grew up on a farm just south of Corning, KS. He attended Corning grade school through 8th grade and then graduated with the Class of 1961 from Vermillion High School. Larry went to work for Leon Burger in Marysville, KS and then moved to Hollenberg, KS to manage the elevator.

On January 20,1963 he married Mary Ann Walters at the Methodist Church in Vermillion, KS. Larry and Mary Ann celebrated 60 years of marriage last January.

The couple began their married life in Hollenberg. Later in 1963 Larry went to work for Senvita Feeds in Seneca and managed the Seneca Vickers station. During this time, he became known as “Hoss”.

Larry bought his first rock truck in 1970 working for Gene Hammes hauling rock and asphalt. In 1978 he bought his first semi-truck and went to work for Michael Bennett Trucking. During the 1980- he primarily worked hauling cattle throughout the Midwest followed by more local hauling of lime, rock and asphalt. In 2008 after a 30+ year trucking career he semi-retired and enjoyed living in Seneca meeting with his long-time friends every day.

Larry cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He looked forward to his daily afternoon calls from his son Jeff to catch up on what was happening in Seneca each day. Larry and Mary Ann traveled many miles visiting their daughter and her family in all of the places they lived from Oklahoma, Texas, and even to Calgary Canada.

Larry enjoyed playing cards with family and their beloved friends Gene and Eleanor Hammes. He could always be found watching his Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State Wildcats. In his retirement years he had his daily routine with all his many friends which included early morning coffee and breakfast usually at 5AM at Lori-, followed by the 10AM conference at Spanky-, and culminating with the board meeting around the picnic table at Bennett- truck shop.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Laverne and Datha Holsapple, brother Ron Holsapple of Overland Park and his son Jeff Holsapple of Olathe.

He was survived by his wife of the home Mary Ann, Daughter Julie (Holsapple) and Bob Bryant of Bartlesville, OK, Daughter-in-Law Judy (Herrington) Holsapple of Olathe, KS. Grandchildren Hayden Bryant of Houston, TX, Holden and Liz Bryant of Collinsville, OK, Brie Maitland of Olathe, KS and Eric and Cynthia Pierce of Springtown, TX. Great Granddaughter Izlee Wilson of Olathe, KS.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 4PM to 7PM at Lauer Funeral home. A private burial at the Seneca City Cemetery will be at a later date.
