Michael Dennis McClary, 67, of Overland Park, Kansas formerly of Vermillion, Kansas, unexpectedly and sadly passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023 at his home.

Michael was born October 25, 1955, in Baumholder, Germany to Harold and JoAnne Wiseman McClary, where Harold was stationed in the military. While growing up, Michael attended the Vermillion Christian Church, received his elementary education at Vermillion Grade School, and graduated from Centralia High School in Centralia, Kansas. Michael went on to obtain a Bachelor- Degree in Business from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. While at Kansas State, Michael was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity where he developed lifelong friendships. After graduating from college, Michael was employed in the banking industry, with most of his tenure working for the FDIC.

Michael grew up serving the Vermillion community, mowing lawns for countless hours, and helping his dad line the ballfield during the summer. He also loved working on his grandparent- farm near Centralia. Michael- hobbies included participating in all types of sports. He was quite the competitor when playing card and board games, and he was proud of his baseball card collection. He also enjoyed shooting pool, knew his way around a billiards table, and belonged to a pool league. Michael was an avid fan of the Kansas State Wildcats, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs.

Michael was a devoted son to his parents. He loved his family and friends, and he was a wonderful blessing to everyone who knew him. Michael will be remembered for his dry wit and fun-loving nature.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents. Michael is survived by his brother, Dirk (Charlene) McClary and his sister, Paula (Jay) Thomas both of Overland Park, Kansas; and his aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Vermillion Christian Church in Vermillion. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be held at the Vermillion Cemetery following the memorial service.

For those individuals unable to attend the services, Michael will lie in state at the Popkess Memorial Chapel in Seneca, Kansas on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
