Helen K Duncan, age 74 of Hiawatha, KS passed away peacefully at her home with her granddaughter Olivia at her bedside, Tuesday, October 3rd. Helen was born October 22, 1948, to the union of Edith and Stanley Duncan. She was named after her father- sister. She grew up and attended school in Hiawatha, Kansas.

Helen was no stranger to hard work. Throughout her lifetime she worked as a respiratory therapist assistant, nanny, flag person on the highway, factory worker, nurse- aide, and a caregiver outside as well as inside the home. For many years Helen helped her mother in caring for her grandparents and uncle (Ross and Pearl Gamble and the son Pete). She later became the primary caregiver for her mother. Helen loved shopping at Old Navy, Bath & Body Works, thrift stores, taking long walks and she loved to do home improvement projects and yard work.

As a young girl she would attend church with her mother at the Church of God and Christ and the AME Methodist Church. Later in life she would attend Second Baptist Church a block from her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edith and Stanley Duncan, brothers Delmar and Stanley Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son Tyron L Duncan of Hiawatha, KS, one daughter Tammy (Brian) Gibbs of Fort Bragg, NC, two granddaughters Olivia Duncan of Blue Springs, MO, Tamrian Gibbs of Fort Bragg, NC, grandson, Brian Gibbs Jr. of Fort Bragg, NC, three great granddaughters Milani and Gianna Stapleton both of Blue Springs, MO and Brilee Gandy of Fort Bragg, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Regina Stillman will officiate. Cremation is to follow services with inurnment at the Hiawatha Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested in her name and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S. 7th St. Hiawatha, KS 66434.
