Margaret E. Utz, 103, who lived in the Larkinburg and Arrington, KS communities her entire life, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Holton Hospital.

She was born June 24, 1920 in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Clarence “Bud” and Margaret E. Whitcraft Bewley. Margaret taught school in the Pardee community for 3 years and in Larkinburg for 2 years. She worked as Deputy Treasurer for the Jackson County Treasurers Office for over 20 years.

Margaret was a member of Holton Business Women, Pilot Club and Jackson County Historical Society. Her most important membership was the Larkinburg Christian Church. She was a member for 85 years. She was very involved in the Women- Group, formerly the Kings Daughters, and served as president several times. She taught Intermediate Sunday School for many years.

Margaret was married to Corliss C. Utz on August 20, 1941 in Larkinburg. Corliss passed away March 16, 1967. She was also preceded by her son, Donald Utz on January 5, 2015 and 2 sisters, Jo Hines and Virginia Brading.

Margaret is survived by her son, Kenneth Utz (Charlotte) of Holton, KS; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Utz of Winchester, VA; her grandchildren, Robin Utz of Alexandria, VA, Gina Woodall (Eric) of Sterling, VA, Bill Utz (Shauna) of Kansas City, MO, Chris Utz (Ann) of Winchester, VA and Aaron Utz (Cody) of Holton, KS; her great-grandchildren, Brooke (Nate), Braden, Grant, Alexis (Thomas), Lilly, Jack, Maggie, Mary Grace, Melanie, Drew, Grace, Isaac and Preston; her great-great grandchildren, Addie, Oliver, Archer and Evander.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS. She will lie in state at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will follow in Larkinburg Cemetery.
