Helen I. Bowser (Bledsoe), 90, of Holton was called home to Heaven by her Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, at her home.

She was born on July 31, 1933, in Wichita, the daughter of Lee and Winnie Bledsoe. She graduated high school in Wichita, received her bachelor- degree from Friends University in music education and her master- degree from Washburn University in remedial reading.

She married Lyman Bowser in 1955. They later divorced and Lyman preceded her in death in 2009.

Helen was a member of Heartland Worship Center Church of God in Topeka, where she played the piano, taught Sunday school classes and led Vacation Bible School for many years.

Helen taught music education in several towns in Jackson County until she started a family in 1965 and raised four children. She then went on to work in the healthcare industry, caring for others and later working for Nystrom Law Office. Helen was also a member of the St. Cecelia Music Club.

Helen will be remembered as a loving, caring, compassionate person who never met a stranger. She was a faithful servant to God and loved sharing the Bible to others. Helen- passion to teach others, led her to start the GED program in Holton. She loved to volunteer her time with The Literacy Council and went on several mission trips to Mexico and Haiti spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and giving the gift of learning. She was an avid cheerleader at her grandkids’ sporting and school events, never missing one.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret Ahlstrom and Winona (Nona) Ponder; and three brothers, Francis (Bud) Bledsoe, Wallace (Wally) Bledsoe and Winston (Wink) Bledsoe.

Survivors include her children, daughter Audrey (Rob) Oliverius of Woodland Park, Colo., and sons Craig (Erin) Bowser, Bryan (Jamie) Bowser and Travis Bowser, all of Holton; grandchildren Brandon Bowser, Tyler (Tara) Bowser, Kolton Oliverius, Dylan Bowser, Rylie Bowser, Ryann Bowser, Gavin Barnes and Ava Bowser; and great-grandchildren Eli, Kendall, Iris and Bruce. Surviving siblings include LaVonne Wade, Beth Huffmeier and Rollin Bledsoe, along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2023 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, with the funeral following at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Holton Cemetery.
