Donald Francis Thurn, 91, of Benton, KS, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Medicalodge of Atchison, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 6, 2023, at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Good Intent with Fr. Hughes Sundeme as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the St. Louis Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with visitation following until 4:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to St. Louis Cemetery or St. Croix Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Words of comfort for the family may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Don was born on August 7, 1932, in Doniphan County at home, the son of Joseph and Ora (Cordinier) Thurn. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. Don worked for LFM for thirteen years and then Missouri-Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman. He was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Andover, KS, Benton- Lion Club, Knights of Columbus, VFW, and American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, puzzles, woodworking, and crack’n walnuts.

Don married Rita Mae Enzbrenner on November 22, 1955; she survives of the home. He is also survived by a son, Ben and Beth Thurn, Everest, KS, a daughter, Kathy and Herb Pello, Benton, KS, six grandchildren, Brad Thurn, Brian Thurn, Jennifer Thurn, AJ Pello, Mike Pello, Matt Pello and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, and two brothers, Leo, and Ken Thurn.
