Dennis Mark Barrett

Dennis Mark Barrett, 66, of Oneida, formerly of the Fairview-Powhattan communities, died December 31, 2023, at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Dennis was born at Seneca, March 8, 1957, the ‘favorite” ( which has been said) of seven children of Joseph Alfred and Vauncille Margaret “Pooch” Brunner Barrett. He grew up in on the Kickapoo Reservation near Powhattan where he attended Powhattan schools where he was active in basketball and football with the Powhattan Red Devils, graduating high school with the class of 1975. He lived in Topeka a number of years and worked for Hayden Towers hanging drywall and insulation.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church. He married was to Evalyn Jo Talkington November 16, 1991 at St Paul Lutheran Church of Fairview. They have made their home at Oneida since 1985 where they raised their children and able to be a part of their grandchildren's lives. Dennis enjoyed his family, camping and fishing. Evalyn survives.

Dennis worked at a variety of different occupations through his working life: Wrights Tree Service, did roofing work, drove a truck a number of years delivering materials for Nebraska highways. He enjoyed carpentry work and working on remodeling their home through the years.

Other survivors include his children: Krystal Talkington Frye (Brandon), Sissy Talkington Wilson (Chuck), Dustin Barrett (Lisa Pardue), Dylan Barrett (Elizabeth Rose), all of Oneida; 22 grandchildren plus one on the way SOON; and2 great-grandchildren. His siblings also survive: Wanda Barrett of Topeka, Lewis Barrett (Rose) of Mayetta, Vikki Broxterman (Lyle) of Fairview, Diane Davis (Greg) of Hiawatha, and Douglas Barrett, also of Fairview.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother David.

A Celebration of Dennis's eternal life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 8, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Fairview. Pastor Brian Holle will officiate. Interment will follow at the Isely Cemetery, north of Fairview.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 12 noon Sunday where the family will meet with friends from 2 until 4 Sunday afternoon.
