Dishon Maple Chaney Mortuary in Horton
Formerly rural Everest, KS

James Glen Leitch, 89, died on January 8, 2024 in Manhattan, Kansas.

Glen was born October 2, 1934 to James and Lena (Hogue) Leitch.

Glen graduated from Effingham High School in 1952. On June 11, 1955, he married Grace E. Linck at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Purcell, Kansas. They started farming together in the Effingham area, until moving north of Everest in 1963. Glen took great pride in his farm and always strived to improve the land and raise the best animals he could.

Glen served in the Kansas National Guard from 1953 to 1961, ending with the rank of Sargent First Class. Some of his fondest memories were of going to guard camp and the hijinks that ensued with his friends. He also served on many boards, with Production Credit Association, the Everest Alliance and Brown County Commission being among them. Glen always enjoyed the challenge of learning new things and especially the time interacting with his fellow board members, working to achieve a common goal.

Family and friends were very important to Glen. He found joy in working with and spending time with people; playing cards, and sharing a good joke being two of his favorite activities. He was always up for going to a ballgame or 4-H activity to cheer on the local teams and kids.

Glen was preceded in death by his wife Grace, his parents, his brother Phillip, and sister Roberta. Survivors include Phil (Sharyl) Leitch of Everest, Debbie Bowman of Wichita, and Michael (Shannon) Leitch of Wamego. Eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held January 13th at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, KS. Rosary will be held at 10 am, followed by a visitation. Mass will be held at 11 am. Graveside service will be with the immediate family directly after the Mass at the All Saints Cemetery. All are invited to lunch in the Church Hall after Mass. Memorials may be made to the Glen Leitch memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary.
