David E. Yocum, 67, of Dawson, Nebraska was born on April 7, 1957, in Beloit, Kansas to Oliver Owen and Lois Maxine (Groves) Yocum. He received his schooling at Sabetha Public Schools and Honey Creek Public Schools south of Dawson, Nebraska. On June 5, 1976, Dave was united in marriage to Glendene "Glen" Curtis at Sycamore Springs Park near Sabetha, Kansas. To this union three children, Jessica, Danna, and Marcus were born. The couple moved to Dawson, Nebraska in 1977 after Dave was offered a job at Koch's Auto. He worked for Koch's Auto, Larry's Auto, and retired from Koch's Auto in 2021.
Dave was a gifted mechanic who seemed to be able to fix almost anything. He enjoyed collecting and assembling model cars and trucks, loved gardening and doing yardwork. But most of all, David loved and cherished his family, especially the times spent all together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Dave passed away unexpectedly at his home in Dawson on Sunday, March 23, 2025, having reached the earthly age of sixty-seven years, eleven months, and sixteen days. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Alan, Grant and Johnny Yocum.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Glen Yocum of Dawson, children: Jessica Raney and husband John of Falls City, Danna Smith and husband Josh of Beatrice, NE; Marcus Yocum of Stella, NE; grandchildren: Megan Bartram and husband Kile of Lincoln, Chelsea Yocum and significant other Josh Bachman of Bern, KS; Nathan Smith and significant other Taylor Shaw of Beatrice, NE; Robert Richardson and significant other Taylor Timothy of Falls City, Aden Smith of Beatrice, NE; sisters: Rosie Ekpe of Kansas City, KS; Glenda Jones of Holton, KS; his brother Brian Jones and wife Rene of Humboldt, NE; sister-in-law Linda Yocum of Carrollton, TX; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A Celebration of David's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.
A register book will be available for signing from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family's choice with a later designation.
