Barbara M. Deters, 84, of Baileyville, died on March 25, 2025, at Saint Luke's South Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas.

Barbara Mae Deters was born on October 3, 1940, in Frankfort, Kansas to Ralph W. and LaVerne E. (McBratney) Harter. She attended Centralia School and graduated from the 12th grade. She then attended nurse training for a year and a half at Stormont Vail. Upon meeting Leonard Deters at a dance in Baileyville, she gave up her schooling to become a dedicated farm wife, helping with the family farm alongside her husband and son, Neil.

On April 26, 1960, Barbara married Leonard J. Deters at the Sacred Heart Church, Baileyville. The couple made their home on the Deters' family farmstead south of Baileyville.

Barbara joined the Catholic Church prior to her marriage and was a true example of "living her faith." She taught CCD for 10 years, was Bible Study coordinator for 25 years, and a Eucharistic Minister for 20 years. She was also a member of the parish choir, quilting ladies, and the altar society taking her turn as president. Barbara was the 4-H Community Leader and a project leader for the Centralia Aces 4-H Club for several years and volunteered for the Nemaha County Fair Open Class after children were out of 4-H.

She enjoyed being with family and friends. She never knew a stranger and shared her compassionate heart with all she knew. Sewing, crafting, reading and puzzles filled any spare time she might have on the farm. Grandchildren and great grandchildren loved doing puzzles with her at family gatherings.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Deters, her parents and her brothers Richard and Duane Harter.

Survivors include Connie (Roy) Winkler of Kelly, Wanda (Bob) Sharon, of Kansas City, Kansas, Brenda (Kevin) Stephenson of Overland Park, Kansas, Mike (Barbara) Deters of Kansas City, Missouri and Neil Deters of the home; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Reginald Saldanha and con-celebrated by Fr. Arul Carasala on March 29, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville at 10:30 A.M.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart's Catholic Cemetery in Baileyville.
Memorials may be given for the Sacred Heart Parish Hall sent in care of the family.
