Alice Frakes

Alice A. Frakes, 74, Valley Falls, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1938, at Seneca, the daughter of Paul F. and Helen B. Gudenkauf Grollmes. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1955. Alice was a homemaker. She had worked at Southwestern Bell in Topeka for two years and had been a waitress at American Legion Bicentennial Post 225 at Ozawkie. She had also been the chaplain at Post 225. Alice was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls where she served as sacristan for many years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society. She married Arthur L. “Bud” Frakes, on Dec. 27, 1955, at Valley Falls. He died on Aug. 13, 2010. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Marie Grollmes and Sarah Grollmes, and a grandson, Raymond Stover.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Frakes, Topeka, Matthew Frakes (Sheila) and Arthur Frakes, all of Valley Falls; her daughters Gwen Putthoff (Chris), Meriden, Christine Noe and Hope Stover (Chuck), all of Topeka, Pamela Sloop (Bob), Janet Ricklefs (Al), Paula Pickerell (Jason), and Amy Harrington (Todd), all of Valley Falls and Jennifer Schwarzenberger (Kevin), Prairie Village; two brothers, Francis Grollmes and Leo Grollmes, both of Valley Falls, her sister Mary Wessel, Effingham; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church in Valley Falls. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the church. Visitation will follow.
