Hiawatha, KS

Naomi Pearl “Betty” Livermore Sines, 91, of Hiawatha, died Tuesday morning, April 29, 2014, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.  She previously had made her home at the Pines South and Vintage Park.

Betty was born October 29, 1922, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Peggy Humphrey Livermore and grew up there where she attended school.

She married D.L. “Dutch” Sines, July 6, 1941.  They lived at Cedar Rapids until 1955, when she and Dutch moved to a small farm near Solon, Iowa and resided there until 1989, when they moved to Hiawatha, KS to be nearer their son Bob and his wife Nancy.

Betty was a superb housewife and homemaker, enjoying gardening, cooking, caring for her two sons, and many house guests invited in by Dutch.  There were assorted nieces and nephews in search of a lifestyle adjustment or as we referred to it a boarding house with a directional course.

Betty was respected and adored by many friends and family, she will be missed, but not forgotten.

Survivors include two sons:  Leonard (Sue) Sines of Phoenix, AZ, Robert (Nancy) Sines of Hiawatha, KS; five grandchildren:  Jack, Michael, Tim, Dan, Amy; fourteen great-grandchildren:  Erin, Lindsey, Kristen, Taylor, Ryan, Michael, Josh, Sabastian, Andrea, Dutch, Sarah, Katie, Lauren, Jackson; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother Leona Humphrey; and her husband of 52 years, Dutch in 1993.

A celebration of Betty’s life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Shane Spangler officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Friday and where the family will meet from 6 until 8 that evening.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Betty Sines Memorial Scholarship Fund which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.
