Barbara A Montgomery, 76, Valley Falls, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.

She was born on  Aug. 30, 1937, at Topeka, the daughter, of Roland and Anna Roosevelt Godfrey.

Barbara had retired from the State of Kansas Driver Control Department. She had also worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital in Winchester and at Valley View Nursing Home in Valley Falls. She had attended the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and was a former member of Rebekah Lodge No. 652 in Valley Falls and Moose Lodge No. 555 in Topeka.

She married Charles Eugene Montgomery Sr. on Nov. 21, 1953, at Hoyt. He died on Oct. 16, 2006. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Ronnie Godfrey, a son, Jeffrey Montgomery, and a grandson, Joshua Montgomery.

 Survivors include three sons, Bobby (Winona) Montgomery, Valley Falls, Charles (Pamela) Montgomery Jr, Hoyt, and James (Teresa) Montgomery, Valley Falls; two daughters, Patricia (Mark) Platt, Valley Falls, and Deanna (Charles) Bernauer, Topeka; a brother, Darold (Maria) Godfrey, Auburn; two sisters, Judy Norton, Meriden, and Sharon (Tom)Stevens, Ozawkie; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
