 LaVeta M. Daniel, 93 formerly of Prairie Village, KS, passed away Friday May 9, 2014 at Hickory Pointe Care Center, Oskaloosa, KS.


Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Monday May 12th, 2014 at the Rushville Christian Church, Third & Main St., Rushville, MO with Tim Champ officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO.  Family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the Church.  Memorials are suggested to Grace Hospice, Topeka, KS., American Heart Association or the Association for the Blind and may be sent in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.


LaVeta was born August 4, 1920 in Rushville, MO the daughter of Frank and Stella (Seever) McQueen.  She received her bachelor’s degree at Northwest Missouri State, Maryville, MO, and later  her masters in learning disability from the University of Kansas.  LaVeta taught school for forty years, twenty-six of those years she taught at Prairie Village, KS, and was principle for two years, she also taught for fourteen years at Franklin School in Atchison, KS.  LaVeta enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband and traveling all over the United States, Canada, Mexico and Bermuda as part of the National Holiday Rambler RV Association.


LaVeta married her high school sweetheart Lyman E. Daniel, Jr. on December 31, 1944 at the First Presbyterian Church, Atchison, KS.  He preceded her in death on July 29, 2011.  Survivors include a foster daughter; Vicky Scheufele, Newport News, VA, a sister in law; Mary Dyer, Muenster, TX, nieces and nephews; Claudia (Jim) Thomas, Atchison, KS, Connia Hergert, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Irvin (Celia) McQueen, St.Joseph, MO, Larry(Alpha) McQueen,Faucet, MO.,  Douglas (Kathy) Armstrong, Atchison, KS, Julie (Jim) Christian, Atchison, KS, Hayley (Tom) Danglemyr, Muenster, TX, Tom Davis Montana, Claude “Buzz” (Shirley) McQueen, Branson, MO,  Richard (Mary) Montgomery, Independence, MO,  Diane “Grace” Thomas, Kansas City, MO.


She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Claude, Leonard and Frank McQueen, two sisters; Lottie Harvey and LaVonia Armstrong.
