Fred Johnson Jr., 82 of Horton, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at his brother's home in Nortonville, Kansas.

Fred was born on October 22, 1931 in Effingham, Kansas the son of Fred and Easter Hall Johnson. Fred was drafted into the U.S. Army after high school. After serving in the Army he went to work for Rockwell International for a few years prior to going to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Horton, Kansas, retiring after forty years of service as a U.S. Postal Clerk and Carrier. He was a member of the Horton American Legion. On August 30, 1958 he married Alice Madison in Horton, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2008.

Survivors include a brother, Clifton Johnson of Nortonville, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews; two sister-in-laws, Betty Bewley of Atchison, Kansas and Esther Weber of Otterville, Missouri; He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son Ronald Johnson, two sisters, Catherine Allen, Virginia McLaughlin and a brother, Thomas Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Burial with Military Graveside Rites will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, Kansas.
